The Blessedness of Brokeness - The Beauty of Humility

Humility is the indispensable element of the fruitful Christian life in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gives joy, power, fruit. What we don't want to realize is that the Holy Spirit can't live in a temple where there are idols. We can't serve two masters. Idolatry is the big "I", self. What is brokenness? It is the painful, humiliating, not I but Christ, "not my will, but yours be done.”

THE PATH TO BROKENNESS - What does God do to break us?
	1. When we are confronted with the living word of God we are broken.
Jesus is a stone to make men stumble
He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces. (Matthew 21:44)
	2. He brings in pain and suffering (eg. Paul's thorn in the flesh).
	3. It comes when we see what our own way has got us.
		- “I know my transgression and my sin is always before me.” (Psalm 51:3-5)
		- “My sins are more than the hairs of my head..My heart fails within me.” (Psalm 40)

THE APPEARANCE OF BROKENNESS - What does a broken person look like?
	1. Ready to be honest about our self. (I John 1:8-9)
	2. Quickly admits that we have sinned. Pride will deny that there is the possibility to sin.
	   (the Pharisee and publican)
	3. Ready to make restitution - (eg. Zacchaeus)
	4. Convinced of his own inability to serve God. We will realize our dependence on prayer and seeking God's face. (Psalm 51:8 - Create in me a clean heart)
	5. Doesn't defend our self.
-eg. difference between a snake, and a worm. (Psalm 22:6)

THE Blessings OF BROKENNESS - What does brokenness produce in us?
	1. Manifests true humility (Psalm 51: 16-17).
	2. Brings spiritual fruit (Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground it abides).
	3. Heals - "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)
	4. Brings us closer to God.

For this is what the High and lofty One says, He who lives forever, whose name is holy; 'I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the sprint of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.' Isaiah 57:14-15

The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those what are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
